Tottenham are leading the chase to sign impressive Genoa winger Albert Gudmundsson, according to reports from Italy today.

Gudmundsson has emerged as one of the top attacking talents outside of the top teams in Serie A.

His performances for Genoa have caught the eye and according to GenovaToday, Tottenham are the club who are apparently at the front of the queue to sign him right now.

Gudmundsson, 26, has already scored seven goals in all competitions this season and it's claimed it will take a big fee to convince Genoa to do any sort of business. Indeed, the Italian side are believed to be keen to tie him down to fresh terms as a statement of intent.

Tottenham are expected to make a number of moves in January. A winger, midfielder and defender are all on the agenda, with injuries causing havoc for Ange Postecoglou.

A number of Italian teams, including Inter and AC Milan, are also known to be keen, as are Roma.

The Icelandic international has impressed fellow pros in the game as well as fans and pundits. Indeed, Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman has spoken highly of Gudmundsson, comparing him to Liverpool's Mo Salah.

"If he keeps improving, he won't stay at Genoa for long. He reminds me of Salah when he was at Roma, in that every now and then he disappears. Much like Salah then, he would have four or five chances per match and only score at most one," Strootman said.

"They used to say that if Salah was more clinical, he would be playing for Liverpool, and that is exactly what happened. All joking aside, Gudmundsson is a devastating player and also an exemplary professional."

Tottenham spent around PS50m to bring in Brennan Johnson in the summer but with James Maddison now injured, they are expected to pursue another creative attacking player.
