Radu Dragusin looks set to bring an early end to Manchester United's hopes of signing him with the Premier League-linked defender on the verge of agreeing a new contract at Serie A outfit Genoa.

After Jarrad Branthwaite opted to commit his future to Everton a couple of weeks back, Radu Dragusin appears set to do the same at Genoa.

According to Sky Italia, the Romania international - linked with a move to Manchester United a few days ago by TuttoJuve - has agreed to extend his current deal with the Rossoblu. Dragusin, the report adds, is likely to receive a pay rise in recognition of his excellent performances, the former Juventus youngster establishing himself as one of the most talented young centre-halves in European football.

21-year-old Dragusin even scored the winner in Genoa's 1-0 triumph over Hellas Verona last time out, a major presence in both boxes these days.

"I would very well see him in the English championship (in the future). In the Premier League. I think he deserves a move there. I think it could be a dream come true for him," former Romania striker Florin Raducioiu tells OrangeSport.

"Dragusin (could one day join) a team like Chelsea or Manchester United."

The defender's agent, meanwhile, has spoken openly about Newcastle's interest of late. Genoa, Florin Manea adds, value the rising star in the region of PS25 million.

"(Newcastle) are watching, but so are other big clubs in England. There's no official offer yet, but it's coming," Manea told Fanatik in October.

"Genoa want 30 million euros. They said it directly. I don't think there is anyone in Italy who would pay this amount of 30 million euros.

"I talked about the Premier League, I talked about Newcastle. But they are not the only ones. There are several teams I am talking to."

Ten Hag wants a centre-back In addition to Dragusin and Branthwaite, Manchester United are also keeping tabs on Goncalo Inacio, Marc Guehi, Giorgio Scalvini and co.

The highly-reliable Muppetiers, however, believe that Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo is 'likely' to be United's next big centre-back signing, the Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos connection working in their favour.
