Tuchel, whose team next visits Arsenalin the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, had no explanation.

'In the first 15 minutes of the second half, we gave away everything we had built up. Within the first minute, we actually completely stopped playing soccer and doing everything we'd done in the first half,' Tuchel said.

The Bayern coach said he warned his players during the interval that Heidenheim could change style and play with two forwards 'because I would have done that,' and because Heidenheim had played like that before.

Kevin Sessa pulled one back for Heidenheim and Tim Kleindienst equalised a minute after that.

'It is obviously extremely difficult for us to maintain the concentration level and the level of fight with which we had fully deserved to lead up to then,' Tuchel said of the team's collapse. 'Yes, that's hard to explain. I can describe it to you. Explaining it is difficult.'

Eberl, meanwhile, insists Tuchel will remain in charge for the game in north London amid speculation the former Chelsea boss could be sacked before a game that will define Bayern's season.

Eberl said: 'We should all be a bit ashamed today - and we have to make sure we represent the Bayern badge more worthy relatively quickly.

'This is not the Bayern Munich that I knew. I was surprised at the lack of stability that I found at Bayern. A lot needs to be changed.

'After the Dortmund defeat, today was a character test for us - We passed it in the first half, but failed in the second half.'
