Bayern Munich could give Arsenal a gift with puzzling CB selection in Champions League

Bayern Munich are sliding after yet another disappointing result in the Bundesliga this past weekend, as Die Roten fell 3-2 to newly promoted side Heidenheim.

According to a report from Kicker, Tuchel is expected to start the duo of former Tottenham backup Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt over the more highly-rated pairing of Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano.

The feeling is that because Kim and Upamecano struggled in Bayern's three-goal defensive letdown against Heidenheim, Tuchel could turn to Dier and de Ligt.

Tuchel has been smitten with Dier and quizzically wanted Bayern Munich to sign him from Tottenham despite the fact that Spurs were always desperate to upgrade him. Meanwhile, he has been sour on de Ligt, to the point where the former Juventus and Ajax man was considering forcing a transfer out of Bavaria.

Upamecano and Kim are two special center backs, and Kim was arguably the best player at the position last season for Serie A-winning side Napoli. He was also amazing for Bayern at the beginning of the season but, like so many of his teammates, lost confidence under Tuchel.

A pairing of de Ligt and especially Dier, whom Arsenal fans are very familiar with, is a highly underwhelming lineup against a Gunners attack that boasts Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal are Premier League title contenders and are coming off a huge 3-0 win over Brighton. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, look like yesterday's news, and the sluggish tandem of de Ligt and Dier could potentially spell more doom for the German club if they are indeed Tuchel's choice on Tuesday night.
