Man United takeover 'becomes a nightmare' as Liverpool 'joined' by Man City in transfer chase
Source:Liverpool

Liverpool's start to the season has been very encouraging for Jurgen Klopp. The Reds sit fourth in the Premier League, but only three points behind league leaders Tottenham.

Compared to last season, where Liverpool only won two of its first 10 league games, this campaign has started much better. All the while, Klopp has been building a new midfield, and the likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo are settling into their surroundings with much more ease.

Expectations are high - as they always are with Liverpool - but it's difficult to say how the season will play out at this stage. Yet the signs are there that this will be an enjoyable season for Liverpool fans, and the pain of last season won't be replicated this time around.

The same cannot be said for some of Liverpool's rivals in the Premier League. There is always one major side in the league underperforming or going through some sort of crisis at any given time.

With the international break in full swing, club news has softly faded into the background for the time being, but there is still news to be found, and today is no different.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.

Liverpool faces Man City transfer challenge Liverpool is apparently facing a challenge from perennial rivals Manchester City and Spanish side Barcelona for Lecce youngster Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu, 18, joined the Italian outfit from Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2022 but has only been promoted to the Lecce first team this season.

The Dane has already made an impression in the Italian top flight, and the big sides of the European game are already keeping an eye on the left-back. Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that Liverpool, Man City and Barcelona are all monitoring Dorgu after his impressive start for Lecce in Serie A.

Prices start from PS59.95

Nike Liverpool.com says: Liverpool doesn't need a left-back, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas nowhere near past their respective peaks, but given his young age, there is little harm in keeping an eye on Dorgu's development over the next couple of years. That's provided Manchester City or Barcelona do not swoop in and get there first.

There's been a concerted focus on youth recruitment at Liverpool in recent years. That has primarily focused on British and Irish talent over the past couple of seasons, with post-Brexit regulations preventing under-18s from moving from Europe, but Dorgu is now old enough that a transfer would be possible.

Manchester United in takeover 'nightmare' The Manchester United takeover saga has been dragging on for what feels like years at this point. The Glazer family were seemingly willing to sell the club when the news first broke last season, but as talks rumble on with various interested parties, there is a feeling that the American owners don't actually want to sell the club, at least for now.

The MEN writes that the situation has descended into a 'nightmare', amid increased fan unrest and frequent misinformation about imminent deals. Offers from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani of Qatar have fallen short of the Glazers' valuation of Manchester United, and this is why any potential deal hasn't progressed yet.

The uncertainty continues, and Man United's underwhelming performances on the pitch are no doubt not helping matters.

Liverpool.com says: There appears to be an uneasiness about Manchester United from top to bottom at the moment; the club is always in the headlines but for the wrong reasons. The Glazers won't walk away from the club until their asking price is met, and the longer the saga continues, the worse it will make things for the club.
