Serie A | Salernitana 0-1 Lecce: Ideal Gotti debut
Source:Onefootball

Lecce made the ideal debut under new coach Luca Gotti, as Norbert Gyomber's own goal allowed them to take all three points away from rock bottom Salernitana.

The visitors sacked coach Roberto D'Aversa this week after he headbutted Verona striker Thomas Henry, along with a dismal run of nine defeats in the last 12 rounds that saw them drop to one point above the relegation zone. Lameck Banda was suspended, with Mohamed Kaba and Kastriot Dermaku injured, but the 4-3-3 formation was scrapped for 4-4-2. Salernitana were practically doomed already and Grigoris Kastanos sat out a ban with Niccolo Pierozzi, while Boulaye Dia was frozen out after refusing to come off the bench.

It was an aggressive start from the hosts, with Antonio Candreva and Lorenzo Pirola testing Wladimiro Falcone.

However, Lecce took the lead with their first real attack, as Valentin Gendrey's cross from the right was flicked on, Roberto Piccoli anticipated Norbert Gyomber to knock it back and Nikola Krstovic scored on the rebound.

Falcone struggled to parry a Tchaouna volley into the ground from Domagoj Bradaric's cross, while at the other end Pontus Almqvist didn't get enough power on two attempts on target.

Toma Basic's free kick skimmed the crossbar and Falcone made a remarkable reaction save on Giulio Maggiore from close range.

Candreva slipped on the turn to scuff the volley and his cross-shot was fingertipped out from under the bar by Falcone.

Nwankwo Simy sprung the offside trap on an Alessandro Zanoli through ball only to fire straight at Falcone one-on-one, then moments later the Lecce goalkeeper made a tough reaction save on the deflected Iron Gomis cross.

Salernitana kept pushing, but nobody was ready to meet the acrobatic Gomis flick back from the by-line and Lecce took their first away win of the season.
