Sparta coach praises one 'good' Rangers star who was Clement's stand-out performer

Sparta Prague coach Brian Priske and forward Jan Kuchta both singled out Jack Butland for praise after the Rangers goalkeeper produced a virtuoso display during Thursday's 0-0 UEFA Europa League draw.

Five weeks after the former England stopper laid down the concrete-tipped foundations for that 1-0 victory over Real Betis, Rangers were once again indebted to their standout summer signing as the Glasgow giants took one small step towards knockout stage football.

Jack Butland was outstanding as Sparta dominated the first-half, mustering 10 shots on goal without reply at one stage.

And Sparta coach Brian Priske - like Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini in late-September - was left to rue the feline reflexes of a man who is proving to be a more than fitting successor for the legendary Allan McGregor.

Jack Butland shines in Europa League draw "It's a little disappointing that we didn't win at home. We wanted to reward the fans who supported us, get three important points in a balanced group," Priske tells iSPORT.

"In the first half, we dominated in many aspects. We had more significant chances, but we probably lacked more quality. Even their goalkeeper made good saves."

"The teams we face have the same quality and individuality as us. That's why the goalkeepers in the team are there to save something," adds Sparta striker Kuchta. "Unfortunately, the goalkeeper caught (our shots).

"But we were able to create chances."

Rangers hold firm away to Sparta Prague In a new-look back-three system, Ben Davies and the granite-carved John Souttar stood strong and tall like a pair of wizened oak trees in front of Butland, while the in-form Abdallah Sima showcased another side of his game with a ferocious defensive effort on the left-hand side.

Rangers now have four points from a possible nine, but remain just two short of Sparta in top spot.
