The January transfer window is on the horizon, and Real Madrid will resume its plan to sign Kylian Mbappe on a pre-contract. Mbappe's contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires after this 2023-24 season.

As a result, the 24-year-old can sign a pre-contract with any team beginning Jan. 1st. So what's Los Blancos' plan to ensure they finally secure the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner?

Spanish journalist Javier Rubiano weighed in with his thoughts on the situation. He believes that, like in 2022, the PSG winger will wait toward the season's end to decide instead of signing any pre-contract.

If PSG advances to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, it's unlikely either club will get a decision from Mbappe. The forward will want to be focused on the tournament and for however long the Ligue 1 giants remain.

Rubiano also highlighted this saga's unpredictability, as no one knows what Mbappe wants to do. Not many expected him to stay past 2022, and many believed he would leave his hometown club this past summer. Nonetheless, he remained after the exit of Neymar Jr.

"Are there options for him to abandon Real Madrid again and renew with PSG? Of course," Rubiano added. "But there are also options that he would finally take the step of leaving France to end up at the Santiago Bernabeu. And that's why Florentino [Perez] will be knocking on his door in the coming weeks or months."
