La Liga chief hints at how long Jude Bellingham could stay at Real Madrid

La Liga president Javier Tebas has hailed Jude Bellingham's impact on the Spanish top-flight since signing for Real Madrid, though fears Spain might only have "a few more seasons" to enjoy the midfielder.

The 20-year-old was the centre of a transfer storm in the build up to 2023's summer window, one that quickly developed into a two-horse race between Liverpool and Los Blancos.

However, Anfield chiefs put the fire out in April, months before any official activity could take place. The club stepped away from a deal due to the costs involved and the scale of the midfield rebuild required for Jurgen Klopp's team, paving the way for Bellingham to complete a PS115m switch from Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Instead the Reds were able to bring in four engine room options - Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch - for a combined PS146m.

Liverpool can also be happy with their decision too, sitting second in the Premier League heading into the third international break of the season, one point behind leaders Manchester City, who they play next.

Though Bellingham is certainly attempting to prove what the Reds are missing out on over in Spain. Having the best start to a La Liga campaign of any player in history - not excluding five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo - the Englishman has 13 goals and three assists from 14 appearances.

"It's only been a few months, it's too soon to know the full extent, but in the viewing levels in the UK Bellingham is having a big impact in our league," Tebas told a web summit in Lisbon via the Independent, speaking on Bellingham's cultural impact on Spanish football.

"He's an important player and the United Kingdom and other English-speaking areas are attracted to our league because of him.

"Bellingham is a top player, we knew he was a great player but we didn't realise the level he could reach, at Real Madrid it's like he's from a different planet."

Only four years into his professional career, there could yet be plenty of time for Bellingham to call time on his Real Madrid career and have a good number of years in the Premier League - a competition he is still yet to play in.

Tebas is wary this might be case, acknowledging the pull of the English top-flight or potentially Liverpool, taking a more direct approach.

"I'm sure he'll stay for a few more seasons," the 61-year-old continued. "We have got the best player in Europe who is English, we can't compare the two countries.

"Obviously the Premier League is bigger but the best player in Europe is playing in Spain. So we have the choice to get the best players to come to Spain."

After England's last batch of Euro 2024 qualifiers, Bellingham himself told Channel 4: "This is the club I want to be at for the next 10 to 15 years of my life. I am loving it there."

The contract the England international signed in the summer officially runs for another six years, until summer 2029.
