Sadiq Umar has returned to light training at Real Sociedad after being ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury

He sustained a slight injury in Nigeria's preparatory AFCON game against Guinea and was replaced by Paul Onuachu

Despite returning to light training, Sadiq will not be able to return for the Nations Cup as his place has already been taken

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar has quickly recovered from his injury that initially ruled him out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. After sustaining a slight injury in Nigeria's preparatory AFCON game against Guinea, he was replaced by Trabzonspor hitman Paul Onuachu. Although he has returned to light training at Real Sociedad, he will not be able to rejoin Ivory Coast for the tournament.

Sadiq made Jose Peseiro's squad for the 2023 AFCON but had to withdraw due to his injury. He arrived back in Spain just days ago and is now focusing on regaining fitness with hopes of making it into Real Sociedad’s squad for their upcoming Copa del Rey fixture against Osasuna.

Real Sociedad have shared a video showing Sadiq in light training as he begins his recovery process. Laliga action has resumed, and although he won't be participating in this year's AFCON competition, all eyes are on him as fans hope for his quick return and full recovery.
