Stade de Reims left-back Thibault De Smet insists Jeremy Doku is 'one of the best' wingers he has ever faced.

Doku arrived at City in the summer, signing a five-year deal following the agreement of a PS55.5million deal with Rennes. The 21-year-old has enjoyed an excellent start to life in Manchester, scoring twice in eight appearances and providing a fresh problem for Premier League defenders.

City's wingers in recent seasons have all had a similar profile, opting to drift inside and play centrally. But Doku remains a more traditional wide option, using his electric pace to dart past full-backs and deliver - something he does better than anybody else in the world.

"I remember well that Thomas Foket [right-back] and I were talking about Doku before the match," De Smet told Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad. "When we saw that he started the match, we said to each other: hopefully he is on your side, or it will be a long match.

"Because against a player like that it is just a tough 90 minutes. In the end he was on the right, so I had it.

"I'd say it's almost impossible to stop him. He's one of the best players I've ever played against.

"The only thing that can help is defending with two men. But when you face him one-on-one, with his starting speed, he only needs to give the ball one tap to pass you."

Doku has been a breath of fresh air since joining City in the summer, acting as a much more traditional winger compared to the likes of Jack Grealish and Phil Foden. The 21-year-old was described by Pep Guardiola as a 'proper winger' and has been compared to former Blues wide men Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.
