Why Leroy Sané rejected Liverpool move previously as fresh ...

Leroy Sane, the Bayern Munich star, has already made a significant transfer decision regarding Liverpool earlier in his career after receiving a call from Jurgen Klopp. Sane, who joined the Premier League in 2016 from Schalke 04, turned down a move to Liverpool and instead joined Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

However, a report from the Daily Mirror over the weekend suggested that Liverpool is considering a move for Sane as it prepares for the potential departure of Mohamed Salah. Salah's future has been the subject of intense speculation, with interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad during the summer transfer window.

The Saudi club made a verbal bid of up to $182m (PS150m/EUR173m) for Salah and could come back again in the near future. In light of that, Liverpool's pursuit of Sane as a replacement for Salah has gained traction. It is worth noting that Sane had previously revealed his close encounter with Liverpool before joining Manchester City.

In an interview with The Guardian in 2018, Sane confirmed that he had discussions with Liverpool and that Klopp personally reached out to him. Sane spoke highly of Klopp, praising his work at Borussia Dortmund and describing him as a good and honest person. However, Sane ultimately chose to join Manchester City.

Currently, Sane has two years remaining on his contract with Bayern Munich. There have been talks of a possible contract extension in Bavaria. However, it is important to note that Liverpool typically follows a transfer policy that avoids pursuing players who will be 28 years old in January, which may impact its supposed pursuit of Sane.

While Sane's potential transfer to Liverpool remains uncertain, it is clear that Klopp's interest in the player dates back to his time at Dortmund. Whether Liverpool will make a move for Sane in the future or explore other options to strengthen their squad remains to be seen.

Liverpool.com says: As ever, the ideal thing would simply be to keep Salah and tie the Egyptian down to a new contract. Sane is great but he is not as good as Salah and would not score as many goals.
