Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley is a target for Arsenal - but officials at Molineux are now contemplating taking action to stop the Gunners from signing him.

Arsenal are said to be looking for a new stopper this summer and to move Aaron Ramsdale on.

David Raya is their number one now, and it is not really feasible for Ramsdale to stay as a number two, given his high wages.

Arsenal have therefore been looking at potential options, and their search recently led them to Wolves' Dan Bentley.

Arsenal saw a derisory PS50,000 bid turned down.

Now, Wolves could do something that will make it really tricky for them to land Bentley.

Currently, Bentley has a year left on his deal. But wolves Would be able to extend it if they wanted. Given the interest from Arsenal, Wolves are now thinking of bringing that option forward.

"Wolves hold a two-year contract extension for Bentley and could trigger it early to keep hold of him. His current deal expires in 1 year."

It had recently been claimed that Arsenal had returned with a PS300,000 bid.

Wolves are not particularly keen to lose Bentley. The club have reported to be only willing to sell if they can find a suitable replacement with the money they would bring in Bentley.

Gary O'Neil likes the PS10,000-a-week star, who is a part of the leadership group at Compton.

The manager said earlier this year that he felt that the gap between Bentley and number one Jose Sa had shrunk in recent times.

It would be a smart move It would be a smart move for Wolves to extend Bentley's contract, although the player would have to agree.

But that would then potentially make it difficult for Arsenal to land him.

While Bentley has not totally convinced the entire fanbase with his performances since he signed from Bristol City, he has certainly proven to be a good addition to the dressing room.

He provides Jose Sa with a solid push, and is well respected by the other players.
