Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa remains confident about England's Euro 2024 chances after the centre-back opens up about a 'dream' start against Switzerland.

Konsa has had a season he will never forget. Only two years ago, the defender was fighting towards the bottom of the Premier League with Villa.

Since then, he has pushed the Birmingham outfit into the European places, became an England international and now awaits a Champions League campaign next season.

For his efforts in 2024 under Unai Emery, the centre-back was rewarded with a place in Euro 2024.

Now, he has taken full advantage of his spot as he made his full major tournament debut for England against Switzerland on Saturday.

However, Konsa massively impressed, and earned plenty of praise from pundits.

With the game finishing 1-1, a penalty shootout was needed to decide the fate of the tie, with England coming out on top. Now, after an 'emotional game' Konsa believes that England can go all the way.

"It was a magical experience, something that I've dreamt about as a kid," he said. "I've wanted to play in these games and I'm grateful to the gaffer for putting me in. The main thing is we got the win. It was a very emotional game today but we managed to do it."

Konsa continued: "It was never in doubt (with the penalties), especially with the boys who took them. They were very confident.

"It was something that we've been working on for quite a while now because you never know. We knew we were ready if it got to that and you could see it worked."

"It depends on us," he said. "If we continue to show that spirit and togetherness, I'm sure we can win it all."

The Englishman hardly ever puts a foot wrong and his versatility to play at right-back makes him a sensational asset for Villa.

Now, he has done it on the biggest stage. The Swiss are formidable opponents, as shown against Italy. For Konsa to not only stand his ground but be one of the better players on the pitch is a testament to him.

If Konsa can keep up this form, he will become one of the best buys in Villa's history.
