John Ruddy has penned a message to John Eustace after Birmingham City sacked their head coach on Monday morning.

Blues have confirmed Eustace's departure after speculation over the weekend suggesting Wayne Rooney will be arriving in the Second City to replace him. The 43-year-old leaves Blues in sixth place in the Championship after successive wins over Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion.

Eustace is a hugely popular figure with Blues' players and support staff. Senior players such as Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz have talked up his abilities throughout his 15-month tenure.

Reacting to Eustace's exit, Ruddy said: "I would like to place on record my personal thanks to John for the last 15 months. Gave me the opportunity to come and play for this fantastic club for which I am extremely grateful. I wish you nothing but success in your future endeavours and hope to see you in a dugout very soon."

Manchester United and England icon Rooney is expected to replace Eustace in the hotseat at St Andrew's. The 37-year-old left MLS side DC United over the weekend after 12 months as their manager.

Rooney previously managed Derby County in the Championship during their tumultuous 2021/22 campaign. He couldn't lead the Rams to safety after a 21-point deduction and left shortly after their relegation was confirmed.
