Manager hints Brighton exit may be done – Has given up his own pursuit of player

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has admitted they've conceded defeat in the race for Brighton and Hove Albion's Pascal Gross, suggesting a move to Borussia Dortmund may be done.

MOPO cover comments from the Eintracht boss today, reporting that the Bundesliga club have 'finally checked off' his name from a list of potential targets.

The German side had been heavily linked with a move for the Brighton star this summer, with it looking likely he'll leave the Seagulls as he's in the final year of his deal.

However, reports throughout this week have had him nearing a move to Borussia Dortmund instead, with it explained they'll do everything in their power to secure the transfer. And Toppmoller had hinted that is now in the works, admitting they've accepted defeat when it comes to the Brighton man. "Because of his experience and his personality, we would have loved to have him here, but the issue has now been settled. We don't need to talk much about it anymore," he is quoted as saying when asked about the midfielder.

The question, then, is when a move to Dortmund may be sorted. Ruhr Nachrichten reported earlier this week that Gross had chosen the German club and that a deal worth EUR7-10m was being worked on.

Final negotiations between them and Brighton had not yet taken place but, with the player's desire for the move clear, all signs pointed towards it being done.

With Frankfurt now having given up also, it would seem it may be in the home stretch and an agreement could be struck sooner rather than later.
