Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have shared their opinion after Chelsea's late winner was controversially ruled out by VAR against Aston Villa for a foul on Diego Carlos.

The Villans were 2-0 up at halftime as Morgan Rogers added to a Marc Cucarella own goal. They threw this lead away in the second half.

Noni Madueke halved the deficit and Conor Gallagher levelled the game before Axel Disasi thought he'd won it.

VAR adjudged Benoit Badiashile to have pushed Carlos before the Frenchman found his compatriot to score. Speaking on Match of the Day (27 April), Shearer wasn't sure about the decision.

He said: "I think the defender knows what he's doing, he sticks his arm out and he's backing into him. Is that an absolute howler? No. there's your answer then."

Playing devil's advocate, Wright said: "He's going to head that. He's probably given it because of how aggressive Badiashile looks going for him. He's moved him and he was going to head it."

Was Diego Carlos fouled for Aston Villa against Chelsea? Considering that Unai Emery's side were 2-0 up, it was extremely disappointing to throw that away and so nearly lose.

The feeling inside Villa Park was one that they didn't deserve the decision to go their way after such a poor performance.

With that being said, on second viewing most fans believe that it was a foul and the correct decision was made in the end.

Carlos does tangle with Badiashile while the ball is in the air which is completely fair and legal as they challenge for position before going for the ball.

With the ball dropping and Carlos looking set to get up to try and win a header, he is certainly impacted by a push.

The reason this should be given as a foul is that without the forceful shove, Carlos gets to the ball and potentially can clear.

Although the Chelsea fans, players and staff were fuming with the decision, if it was the other way they wouldn't feel the same way.
