Mark Delaney reflected on a 'disappointing day' as his Under-18s side suffered a 5-0 defeat to Burnley.

City entertained the Clarets at the Alan Higgs Centre this past weekend, in what was a difficult afternoon for the Sky Blues youngsters.

Four goals in the first half for the visitors all but confirmed the points for Burnley, as they were ruthless in front of the City goal.

A fifth was added late on in the second half to wrap up the points for the Clarets, as City fell to a first defeat in four, following an impressive run heading into the game.

Delaney highlighted the organisation and leadership on the pitch as reason behind the way in which the Under-18s struggled against Burnley.

"I thought it was more about us not being organised enough and players on the pitch showing leadership on the pitch to put things right.

"I thought we allowed them to dictate the game. We didn't get close enough to any of their players to allow ourselves to get a foothold in the game."

Both sides were forced to play in difficult conditions, with the rain pouring down at the Alan Higgs Centre.

However, Delaney doesn't believe that had an impact on his players as he didn't want to use that as an excuse for the outcome.

"We were expecting a tough game against a very good side, and we thought it would come down too who deals with the conditions better and who got a hold of the game early.

"The weather didn't hold a bearing on the game whatsoever, I just don't think we got close enough to them to get ourselves a foothold in the game.

"They found the spare man a lot and we didn't organise it well enough I don't think."

City gave a fair account of themselves in the second half, as they were able to create more openings to try and get back into the game.

"Second half could have gone either way, but they had a couple of chances again to get up and obviously they got the free kick and then the game is over."

The Sky Blues will analyse the defeat and see what went wrong and look to put it right in their next outing against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

"Disappointing day but we've got to make sure we analyse it on Monday and Tuesday but try to put it put it away and make sure we're focused on next week."
