Ipswich Town were denied a penalty kick after referee Michael Oliver was sent to the monitor for a VAR check against Everton
Dwight McNeil had been adjudged to have fouled Jack Clarke, but in scenes similar to those at Goodison Park in Everton's previous match when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied a spot-kick against Dan Burn, it was the Ipswich man who appeared to make contact with Everton's winger.
And so it proved when Oliver was sent to the screen and overturned his initial decision. Everton would double their lead later in the first half after a thumping finish from centre-back Michael Keane.
