Man Utd target drops hint that he wants Liverpool transfer instead

Frimpong has been on Erik ten Hag's radar ever since he arrived at Old Trafford, with the Dutchman keen to improve his options at right-back.

The defender's stock has only risen this season as he's been one of the standout performers in a Leverkusen side currently eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

So far, he has scored nine and assisted 10 in 28 appearances across all competitions, though it should be noted he plays in a very advanced role under Xabi Alonso.

United are willing to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer in order to fund a move for the Manchester City academy product, who has a contract until 2028.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 23-year-old and are especially keen after learning he has a PS34million release clause in his deal which becomes active in the summer.

But it would appear that Frimpong may have his heart set on a different Premier League club as he was recently asked whether he'd be up for a move to Liverpool amid the rumours linking Alonso with a return to Anfield.

With Leverkusen flying and still unbeaten in all competitions this season, it is no surprise that Alonso, a Reds legend from his playing days, has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp.

For now though, he - and indeed Frimpong - are just focused on finishing the season as strongly as they've started, with a first league title at stake.

'We haven't lost yet this season. But yes, football is changeable, we have to keep concentration,' the Dutch international added.

'We all trust the coach and know we can do something big this season. We all want to win a trophy, and the coach helps with his playing style.
