Liverpool have allowed Mohamed Salah's contract enter its final year and on January 1 he is able to negotiate with other clubs.

As a result, fans are constantly speculating about the club's ongoing extension negotiations and the vibe on Merseyside is a little tense.

Salah has been a monumental player for Liverpool for seven years now and he continues to set Premier League records to further embed his legacy as one of the club's greatest ever.

And although he is 33 years old, he remains in peak physical condition, delivering for the team whenever he takes to the pitch.

As such, frustration is growing that the Egyptian hasn't been given a new contract - although already sitting on PS350,000 a week, it is unlikely the club could give him any upgraded terms beyond extending the length of his contract.

But given the impact Salah has had at the club, in revolutionising what can be expected of a winger in this country - competing for the Golden Boot every year - it would be a smart idea for Liverpool to ensure he doesn't leave at the end of the season, as the task involved in attempting to replace him is a significant one.

Carragher makes bold Salah claim After scoring a penalty in Liverpool's win over Chelsea earlier today, Salah moved up the all-time Premier League scorers list to sit tied ninth alongside Jermain Defoe, on 163 goals.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Jamie Carragher said: "Mo Salah will have an eye on Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard.

"I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool.

"These are things which get the juices flowing for Salah."
