Erling Haaland makes promise to Man City over injury return ahead of Liverpool clash
Source:Dailystar

Manchester City are sweating on the fitness of goal machine forward Erling Haaland ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The two sides face off on Saturday next weekend at the Etihad as the Premier League returns to action following the November international break. However, on Friday night in Norway's international friendly against the Faroe Islands, Haaland picked up an ankle injury which could rule him out of the Liverpool game.

The Norwegian forward was brought off the bench for the second half by Stale Solbakken but was pictured writhing in pain on the ground clutching his ankle late on, which has forced him to be ruled out Saturday's game against Scotland.

But, despite the injury, and having been ruled out of the Scotland clash, the 23-year-old has vowed he will try his best to "get back asap" for the Liverpool clash following treatment.

Haaland wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately, I am missing tomorrow's game against Scotland. Wishing the boys all the best. Now treatment and trying to get back asap."

Speaking after the game, Norway's team doctor, Ola Sand said: "The injury is not serious, but he is in so much pain and somewhat restricted function that the Scotland game unfortunately comes a little too early."

And manager Pep Guardiola will surely be keeping everything crossed that his talismanic striker is fit enough to play a part in the clash against Liverpool, which would see City open up a four point gap on the Reds should they win at the Etihad.

However, alongside Haaland, City also have a number of other injury concerns too, with Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes all having pulled out of international duty too. Additionally, John Stones is still dealing with an injury, while Rodri also might miss out against Liverpool too after missing Spain's clash on Thursday against Cyprus.
