Gareth Southgate has seemingly followed through on his Marcus Rashford threat after his shock omission from England's provisional Euro 2024 squad.

The Manchester United forward was left out of the 33-man squad on Tuesday (May 21) ahead of the tournament's commencement on June 14 following a dismal season for the 26-year-old. His campaign was partially marred by his controversial boozy night out in Belfast back in February which caused him to miss training with his club.

After he was reprimanded by United boss Erik ten Hag, Southgate, who appeared at the UEFA Nations League draw in Paris, was asked whether he was concerned with Rashford's behaviour to which he laid out a warning to the footballer on his antics "on and off the pitch".

Southgate added: "Then in a few weeks' time we'll have decisions to make on the whole squad and there's going to be a lot of attention on that because it's the final squad before the Euros."

Ahead of Rashford, the likes of Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze and Jarrod Bowen were selected by the England boss who had a simple statement when asked why Rashford was not picked. He answered: "I just feel other players in that area of the pitch have had better seasons. That's it".

Despite having 60 caps to his name and having represented the Three Lions at four major tournaments, he's had a majorly disappointing season with United. Rashford's scored just eight goals in all competitions with the club finishing eighth in the Premier League - their lowest finish since 1990.

They still can qualify for European football with a win against Manchester City in the FA Cup this weekend, which would see United play in the Europa League next season.
