"Unsustainable": National team coach issues warning to match-starved United star
Source:The Peoples

1 Manchester United's Christian Eriksen's lack of playing time his "unsustainable" for his Denmark future according to interim national team coach, Lars Knudsen.

The FC Augsburg assistant manager has been named interim coach of Denmark to navigate upcoming Nations League matches against Switzerland and Serbia at the start of September.

Eriksen played a large role in his first season at United but dropped down the pecking order with the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo and the signing of Manuel Ugarte is unlikely to aid his chances of playing first team football.

His lack of minutes can be seen by the fact that the Dane has only played 90 minutes once since the middle of January for the club, a 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in May.

He is yet to get a minute of action this season as he has started on the bench in both Premier League matches so far.

Eriksen has been named in the Danish squad but according to the interim coach, something must change if he wants to continue representing his nation.

Speaking to Bold, he claimed "Christian is a player who can still contribute a lot. We also saw that during the EC final round."

"But it is clear that his current situation is unsustainable in the long run."

When asked about what Eriksen needs to do to rectify the situation, he stopped short at telling him to leave United but pointed out, "I hope Christian will play football. Whether it's at Manchester United or somewhere else, time will tell. The fact is that he has to play more."

The man capped 134 times for his country played a key role in Denmark's Euro 2024 campaign but has been linked away to numerous clubs this summer as he clearly as no real starting potential at Old Trafford.

Ajax and Anderlecht are two sides who harbour interest but no approach has been made to United for the playmaker as of yet.

Danish pundits have previously spoken about his lack of playing time, with former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder, Thomas Gravesen speaking out against his continued selection for the national team despite his lack of minutes at United.
