Manchester United are already planning for future transfer windows with Erik ten Hag desperately needing to make a new signing in one particular position. The Reds picked up their first victory in five games with goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund helping them come from behind to beat Brentford at Old Trafford.

Kobbie Mainoo, Noussair Mazraoui and Harry Maguire were among the players absent through injury with Erik ten Hag again forced into some tough decisions. Many of those have arrived at full-back with Lisandro Martinez deployed at left-back and Diogo Dalot back on the opposite flank.

Issues in midfield have also arrived for Ten Hag with Mainoo out for the next few weeks and Manuel Ugarte's knock resulting in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro being deployed as the midfield pivot. Those two problems have been present for some time, though United can solve both in upcoming transfer windows.

An update on each individual problem has since come to light which highlights a player United are potentially interested in signing along with their absolute priority. With that said, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at some of the latest United transfer news and rumours.

United set 'transfer plan' United are monitoring Genoa star Morten Frendrup with plans to sign him next summer in place, according to reports from GIVEMESPORT.

The Danish midfielder has been an important player for the Italian side this season with comparisons drawn to two-time Premier League winner N'Golo Kante. The 23-year-old moved to Genoa from Danish club Brondby in 2022 in a deal worth PS2.9million (EUR3.5m), but would likely command a much more substantial fee two years later.

Malacia truth highlights transfer must United have been told Tyrell Malacia could be some way off being fully available for selection after a significant injury lay-off. With Luke Shaw also still absent, but much closer to returning, injury expert Ben Dinnery has offered his thoughts on Malacia.

"I think he will be gradually integrated," he said. "I think we're probably looking at around about maybe 17 months. I'm sure it was around July last year when we last saw him.

"It could be that we see him on the fringes of that first team squad, really just getting a feel of being back in that environment and then ultimately getting a really solid preseason under his belt in 25/26 and then really sort of pushing and competing for a spot in that team."

With the Dutchmen seemingly unlikely to be at optimum level for some time and Shaw plagued by injuries, United entering the market for a new left-back seems very likely and something that should be a priority for Ten Hag.
