The Manchester United captain also told fans to remember Ten Hag's contribution to the club.
Bruno Fernandes has wished Erik ten Hag 'all the best' following the news that Manchester United have sacked the Dutchman.
In a decision that club officials have described as a 'collective and unanimous' one, Ten Hag was dismissed in the wake of the club's 2-1 defeat at West Ham United on Sunday, with the team currently 14th in the Premier League table after nine games.
No-one played more under Ten Hag than Bruno Fernandes, who made 120 appearances for United during his tenure. The midfielder was also appointed as captain by Ten Hag lifted the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and was awarded a lucrative new long-term deal last summer.
It a heartfelt message, Fernandes thanked the outgoing boss on social media and also called on fans to remember his successes.
"Thanks for everything boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future," he wrote on Instagram.
"Even knowing the last period isn't been great from all of us. I hope you fans can keep with you the good things the manager as done for our club."
Fernandes was sent off twice in Ten Hag's final six games in charge as results as performances continued in a similar manner to last season, which was United's lowest-ever Premier League finish.
Despite speaking to several possible replacements, Ten Hag came through a challenging summer and, remarkably, signed a new contract with the club. But heavy home defeats by Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool weakened his position, as did a Europa League campaign that has resulted in no wins from three games.
The loss at the London Stadium proved decisive for Ten Hag, who has been replaced by interim Ruud van Nistelrooy as United look for a long-term replacement. The ex-United striker will be in the dugout when the team face Leicester City on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
