Many teams are in the unknown ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window opening.

The likes of Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton, just to name a few, are probably fretting about how their summer transfer window will pan out.

Nobody is probably in a worse situation than Everton because, after a points deduction this season, they are still with the same owner and are hoping someone takes over and brings a new lease of life to the club.

As for Newcastle, after securing Champions League football last season, they are now without any form of Europe for next season, even though they finished seventh.

Manchester United's FA Cup final win over Manchester City put an end to that and now fans are worried about the players they might lose - Sources told HITC in March that the likes of PSG have scouted Bruno Guimaraes.

Whilst all that talk rumbles on, Sam Matterface made an interesting comment about Everton's current situation and how they are 'more likely to lose players' ahead of the new campaign.

One man the talkSPORT presenter mentioned was striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and how he is 'going to Newcastle'.

Perry Groves questioned that possible deal and why the Magpies would be swapping one 'injury-prone player' for another in Callum Wilson, as he told talkSPORT (02/06/24 at 1:40 pm).

During the past few seasons, Calvert-Lewin and Wilson have been riddled with injuries, with the latter playing 984 minutes of football this term and the Everton man playing over 2000 minutes for the first time in three campaigns.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin to join Newcastle United "Doesn't that sound like a deal (possible Everton takeover) that is going to be done from now and the beginning of the season? questioned Matterface. "Therefore, Everton, over the course of this period, are more likely to lose players, than gain players.

"Bearing in mind that they didn't have the deepest squad in the first place. That will be of concern - Calvert-Lewin, he is going to go to Newcastle."

Groves responded: "Well, that's having an injury-prone player (for another injury-prone player) because Callum Wilson looks like he is the one who is going out. Really, it's a bit like-for-like when you are going to Newcastle."

It is causing major havoc in the market because some teams don't know what to do, others are willing to lose key players and the rest are just standing still.

The years of crazy spending, unless you are Chelsea and Manchester City, are long gone and the books needing to be balanced are as important as ever.

If you are Newcastle, then you have the right to be annoyed by that because, the likes of Chelsea and Man City have been allowed to spend like crazy since the turn of the century and transform their clubs, but now the brick wall has been put up in front of St James' Park when it's their turn.
