Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier was again selected from the start for England at Euro 2024.

Despite some suggestions Trippier would drop out the starting lineup amid his difficulty in not being a natural left-back, the Newcastle star started again the during the quarter-final with Switzerland.

Again operating on the left, though this time as a wing-back, the 33-year-old played for 78 minutes as the Three Lions edged through to the semi-finals by way of a penalty shootout.

Luke Shaw made his return to the fold, meaning Trippier now has competition through a natural left-footer but has constantly been backed by manager Gareth Southgate.

Indeed, he remains a key part of the England set-up and took to Instagram after the game to celebrate, with former Newcastle stars Paul Dummett and Tim Krul responding.

Only on Friday was the England boss talking up the veteran's ability to communicate on the pitch, making himself a leader amongst his teammates.

Having had a major impact at Newcastle after arriving from Atletico Madrid, it's clear that Trippier has an excellent reputation amongst those who work with him.

While there were some struggles for him last season, that kind of attribute will no doubt be missed if he leaves Newcastle this summer.

Perhaps a parting of the ways makes sense now but that's not to say Newcastle won't miss him.
