Report: What Amanda Staveley said in the dressing room after Newcastle's loss

Newcastle United's defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday was pretty bleak.

In arguably one of the worst performances of the Eddie Howe era at Newcastle, the Cherries emerged victorious with a 2-0 win.

Such was the disappointment, Kieran Trippier was involved in a heated exchange with a supporter after the game too.

As Alan Shearer noted after the full-time whistle, Newcastle were poor on the south coast.

Of course, the sheer number of injuries the team have suffered of late does not make things easy and context must be applied but there was little doubting Howe's side were pretty poor.

Indeed, it seems Amanda Staveley had a message for the dressing room after the game.

Newcastle news: What Amanda Staveley said to dressing room about Bournemouth defeat According to The Athletic, Staveley - who has made little secret of her desire to see Newcastle win major trophies soon - told the players just how proud she was of their efforts and expressed her regret that she could not help them more.

Newcastle: This team have bounced back before Cast your minds back to September's defeat to Brighton and the knee-jerk (and swiftly denied) suggestions Howe was under pressure after three consecutive losses.

Now think about how well the team bounced back from that. They have proven they are not a group to wallow in their own disappointment.

Back then, the dressing room are believed to have thought the reaction to that reversal was rather over the top.

Should Newcastle return from the international break with a big performance against Chelsea - which admittedly won't be easy - then perhaps they will look back on Saturday's game in a similar way.

It would be foolish to suggest poor performances shouldn't be addressed just because things have been so good since the takeover but this team deserves trust.
