'Support him': John Percy thinks new Nottingham Forest signing could really help Callum Hudson-Odoi

Nottingham Forest have started the 2024/25 Premier League campaign with five points from three games and remain unbeaten.

The Reds added 11 new players to the squad this summer as quality took priority over quantity in a refreshing change of pace.

Two of those players - James Ward-Prowse and Morato - signed on transfer deadline day and Forest will hope to get those two on the pitch as quickly as possible.

With the new players settling in, there are some little conundrums emerging for the Reds' head coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

He's desperate to find a winning formula and there are certainly bits and pieces for him to sort out across the pitch.

Hudson-Odoi loves to cut inside and against Wolves on Saturday, there were a number of occasions where the opposition did a number on him.

The challenge for Espirito Santo is to try and get him more space and freedom to do his stuff and start finding the way to goal again.

MORE FOREST STORIES

The Telegraph journalist John Percy has been talking to the Forest Focus podcast and he thinks Alex Moreno is one man who could help Hudson-Odoi.

Percy said: "Moreno's very much an overlapping full-back, he likes to get forward.

"His first season at Villa was very good, but in his second season, he did struggle a bit. Lucas Digne played more during that season but he's good with set pieces as well Moreno, he's a good athlete, a good age, experience and can maybe bring the gamesmanship that the team is lacking a bit.

"He will relieve the attacking pressure on Hudson-Odoi and help support him down the left."

Moreno has to play after the international break Ola Aina has been a brilliant free transfer for Forest but the Reds haven't signed Moreno to kick his heels on the bench.

The 31-year-old has checked in to get some minutes under his belt and after two weeks of training, he should be getting the nod.

The decision to play Moreno isn't a difficult one for Espirito Santo, it's what he decides to do on the other side.

Neco Williams has looked out of sorts so far this season and Aina is a player who is a natural at right-back.

It could be that he chooses to bring Moreno in at left-back, switches the Nigerian over to play as a right-back and decides to drop the Welshman.

Getting the best out of Hudson-Odoi is absolutely one of the biggest conundrums for Espirito Santo at Forest right now.

By placing Moreno at left-back, it would bring some balance and his attacking qualities could prove extremely useful for the Forest winger.
