Newcastle United Identify This Nottingham Forest Ace As A Top January Target: Should Howe Go For Him?

In a recent report, journalist Pete O'Rourke claimed that Newcastle United have identified Nottingham Forest ace Anthony Elanga as a top target for the January transfer period. It has been stated that the Magpies are keeping tabs on the Swedish talent ahead of a potential move for him this winter.

Elanga's Impressive Form At Nottingham Last Season Elanga had a great season at the City Ground recently as he put in a series of eye-catching displays for Nottingham in the final third. The 22-year-old scored five goals and picked up nine assists in 39 matches for the Midlands club in the previous campaign across all fronts.

The Swedish playmaker was a decent performer in the opponent's half based on his average of 1.5 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed possession relatively well, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 75.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Nottingham will expire in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for the Magpies to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this January transfer window.

The Swedish talent has also got the vision to engineer some promising chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. He is primarily a right-winger but can also operate as a left-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if required.

We can expect Elanga to bring more firepower to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe's attack. He could even go on to form a productive partnership with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon at the Tyneside club in the coming seasons.

At 22, Elanga has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, it makes sense for the Magpies to go for a player of his quality when the transfer window commences at the start of next year. Furthermore, Howe could be the ideal man to oversee his development and get the best out of the player.
