Callum Edwards' sensational solo strike sealed a second half comeback in the Central League, as Wrexham AFC's reserve side overcame Preston North End at Springfields.

It took two goals in the space of five minutes in the second period for the Red Dragons to go ahead, with Rio Owen starting the fightback.

James Rainbird was brought down inside the penalty area in the 69th minute and Owen blasted the ball down the middle leaving the Lilywhites keeper with no chance of saving.

Three minutes later and they took the lead, with Liam Hall spraying the ball out to Edwards, who began his mazy run before finishing past Tommy Davis.

However, it was the nightmare start for Nick Chadwick's side, as Owen Cushion brought down Theo Mawene 25 seconds into the contest.

Cushion avoided caution, but Callum Havard sent Hall the wrong way, and slotted the ball into the net to give them the lead inside a minute.

It was a much-changed reserves side to the team that were defeated by Accrington, with a large contingent of the starting eleven featuring in the Youth Team.

After falling behind in the early exchanges, the youthful Red Dragons played their way back into the half and could have levelled through Owen, but his effort was deflected wide.

The hosts could have doubled their advantage on a couple of occasions before the break with the first falling to Charlie Goldsmith who disposed Dan Davies but sliced his shot wide.

He had a second opportunity in added time, but his shot was blocked.

Chadwick's side had another problem to solve before the break with Cushion going off injured in a strong tackle and he was replaced by Alfie Lussey.

After the restart they took control of proceeding and started to threaten the Lilywhites defence.

They got back into the game in the same manner as the hosts took the lead, with Owen converting from twelve yards.

The goal provided the inevitable impetus that they needed as the PNE defence struggled to handle Edwards as he scored with a cool finish.

Harry Ashfield had a chance to extend the lead further and seal the victory 13 minutes from time, but his header was easily dealt with by Davis.

PNE searched for a way back into the match, but their efforts came too late with the Red Dragons clinching the three points.
